DIY Wet Bag

Hello,
Today I am going to be sharing with you a simple wet bag tutorial. Wet bags are not only for those using cloth diapers but also for wet bathing suits, burp cloths and anything soiled while you are out with your little one. We all know accidents happen :)

What you will need:

  • iron on vinyl OR some sort of waterproof fabric
  • fabric for outer part of bag and fabric for lining each cut at 12x14". Cut the long edge on the fold so you don't have to sew an extra seam. ***Note: If you are using waterpoof fabric then that piece of material will be your lining cut at 12x14".
  • 1 zipper just shorter than the width of the bag
  • thread in your choice of colors

If you would like to embellish the exterior of the bag now is the time to do so.

Follow the instructions for the iron on vinyl and iron it to the right/printed side of your liner fabric. (omit this step if you are using a vinyl or already waterproofed fabric.)

Place the vinyl side of the liner face down and place the right side of the bag on top, printed side up. Next, place your zipper face down across the top of your bag.

Pin the zipper in place and stitch with a 1/4" seam the full width of the zipper.

Open the zipper, pin opposite side in place, and sew the same way you did the first side. Once you have done that your bag should look like this laying flat.

Turn the bag inside out and sew along both of the unfinished edges starting from the top of the zipper all the way down. When you are sewing with vinyl you will want to use a wider stitch so the needle does not poke to many holes in it.

Trim all of your edges and the bag should look like this. Next turn the bag right side out and your are finished.

Voila!!!

  2. Hi,
I purchased the iron on vinyl at Joann's Craft Store. You can also purchase it at Hobby Lobby or most main stream or local craft stores.
